An aviation ordinanceman makes a final check on an 500 pound JDAM satellite guided bomb on the wing of an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet on the USS Kitty Hawk carrier in the northern Gulf April 8, 2003. U.S. warplanes, tanks and artillery pounded central Baghdad on Tuesday, targeting government offices as American troops pushed into the city from several directions. U.S. forces also pushed in from the north and the southeast, capturing the abandoned Rashid military airfield.
