A Russian seaman works on charts aboard the atomic icebreaker Yamal docked in Murmansk. Russia is unique in having a nuclear icebreaker fleet, allowing its ships to cover its long and frozen northern coast. The Murmansk shipping company, which manages the fleet for the state, has seen cargo tonnage drop and has had to run the ships well beyond their life span, but expects business to boom in the next decade as Russian oil majors start extracting from the Arctic shelf.
