Home of Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife, Fanny from 1885-87; house built by Thomas Stevenson as a wedding gift for his daughter in law; named after the lighthouse designed by Stevenson's uncle, Alan Stevenson (1807-65); Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-94) Scottish writer, novelist, poet, playwright and travel writer; although Stevenson was ill much of the time in Bournemouth, he published some of his most famous works the, including 'A Child's Garden of Verses', 1885; 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde', 1886; 'Kidnapped', 1886; below the etching are inscribed Stevenson's tribute to Skerryvore from 'A Child's Garden of Verses': 'Here all is sunny, and when the truant gull Skims the green level of the lawn, his wing Dispetals roses; here the house is framed Of kneaded brick and the plumed mountain pine, Such clay as artists fashion and such wood As the tree-climbing urchin breaks.'
