Image description: Reloading of “charitable donations” parcels of the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC in the Rhine port in Basel, Switzerland, pictured on May 28, 1945. Due to blown up dikes near Basel, the relief supplies which had already been loaded onto barges need to be reloaded onto railway carriages and transported in direction of Germany and Alsace by land. The cargo trains are marked with the Swiss as well as the Red Cross on their roofs for protection against air strikes.
