Discarded French equipment, 1940. Photograph, World War Two, North West Europe (1939-1943), 1940. In late May and early June 1940 the outflanked Anglo-French retreated towards the beaches at Dunkirk. Fighting a series of rearguard actions en route they were forced to abandon much of their equipment to the advancing Germans. From a set of 20 German propaganda photographs showing the aftermath of the Dunkirk evacuation.
