Switzerland Tamins Rheinbruecke, 1963 (b/w photo)

On April 17, 1963, between Vial and Tamins near Reichenau in Germany, the steel scaffold for the arch bridge over the Rhine grows out of the dammed Rhine bed at a rapid pace. The steel structure of the Rhine bridge rests on eight foundations. The wooden elements show the wide arch with which the national road N13 will one day swing across the Rhine. The finished structure is to serve the traffic branching off the national road to the Buendner Oberland. With a total bridge length of 160 meters, the span of the bridge arch is 100 meters. The 8.5 meter wide roadway leads 35 meters high over the Rhine.
