Schachspiel. Das Schachspiel ist orientalischen Ursprungs. In grauer Vorzeit soll es von Indien nach China und Persien ubertragen worden sein, und im fruhen Mittelalter brachten es die Araber nach Italien und Spanien. In den Kreuzzugen kam es dann auch nach Deutschland und bildete dort in der Folgezeit das Unterhaltungsspiel der vornehmen Gesellschaft. Heute ist es uberall verbreitet. Translation: Game of Chess. The game of chess is of oriental origin. In ancient times it is said to have been carried from India to China and Persia, and in the early Middle Ages the Arabs brought it to Italy and Spain.
