Markthalle. Die Markthalle ist, abgesehen von einer alteren Getreidehalle in Paris, erst die Schopfung der zweiten Halfte des 19 Jahrh. Der wachsende Verkehr, die zunehmende Bevolkerung der Grossstadte und der gesteigerte Gegensatz zwischen Stadt und Land machten solche Zentralen des Gross-, Zwischen- und Einzelhandels notwending, um die Versorgung mit Lebensmitteln zu sichern. Translation: Market Hall. Apart from an older grain hall in Paris, the market hall is only the creation of the second half of the 19th century. The growing traffic, the increasing population of the big cities and the increased contrast between city and country made such centers of wholesale, intermediate and retail trade necessary to secure the food supply.
