William Silas Spanton (fl.1867-1868). Oil painting on canvas, Augustus John Hervey, 3rd Earl of Bristol (1724-1779) (after Sir Joshua Reynolds) by William Silas Spanton (fl.1867-1868), 1899/1900. A three-quarter-length portrait standing before seascape with battle raging on left of picture under very dark storm clouds. He has a grey wig, tied behind. He wears a white cravat under a cream-grey waistcoat edged with gold braid, and a rich blue tunic with creamy-grey lapels and cuffs edged with gold braid. His right hand rests on his hip with sword pointing upwards. His left hand holds a partially unrolled map and rests on a cannon. On back stretcher 'From the original picture in the Guildhall, Bury St Edmunds, painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds in 1762. Copied by W.S. Spanton in 1899-1900'. Ickworth, Suffolk (Accredited Museum)
