Image description

The British warship HMS Nottingham (R) is towed backwards by tugboats from Lord Howe Island August 6, 2002. Only frantic work by its crew prevented the Nottingham from sinking after it ran aground July 7 on the well-charted Wolf Rock off Lord Howe Island, a rocky outcrop 320 kilometers (200 miles) northeast of Sydney off Australia's east coast. The Nottingham has begun the trip to Newcastle to make further repairs before the ship returns home. REUTERS/Rick Rycroft/Pool RR/RCS
