Cuban President Fidel Castro listens to translated remarks during the opening session of a conference on the 40th anniversary of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, in Havana October 11, 2002. The meeting, being attended by Cuban, Russian and U.S. protagonists, looks back at one of the most dangerous moments of the Cold War and would seek to draw lessons to reduce the risk of nuclear war. Among the senior surviving Kennedy Administration aides attending the three-day conference include include speechwriter Theodore Sorensen, historian Arthur Schlesinger and former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert McNamara.
