Image description

Melvin James, deputy flight director at the mission centre in Geneva, toasts to a new world record for the longest-lasting non-stop flight without refuelling set by the three-man European team of the Breitling Orbiter hot-air balloon February 6. The old mark of nine days and four minutes, set in December 1986 by a lightweight plane flown by two U.S. pilots, was overtaken by the Swiss-British-Belgian trio with Bertrand Piccard, Andy Elson and Wim Verstraeten now heading for a landing in Myamar in their balloon.
