Aaron Edwin Penley The Pier at Luss, Loch Lomond, 1858 Watercolour and gouache Height 45.4 x Width 89.3 cm TWCMS : G2840 Views of Scottish scenes such as this became popular from the mid-19th century onwards. Despite this watercolour's large size, the artist has used tiny brushstrokes to capture the detail of the scene. The brightness of the colours was made possible by developments in paint technology in the 19th century. Aaron Penley painted many lake views and Scottish scenes.
