Brazilians fishermen cast their lines in the Guarapiranga Reservoir, wich supplies 25 percent of the drinking water of the Sao Paulo metropolitan area, March 15, 2003. The Environmental Sanitation Program of the Guarapiranga Water basin, started in 1988 aimed to guarantee the water quality of the Guarapiranga Reservoir, included basic sanitation infrastructure over the irregulars slums constructed around the Reservoir. The 3rd World Water Forum, which runs on March 16-23 in Kyoto, Shiga and Osaka, Japan, will also address issues of water, water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and water pollution.
