An Indonesian youth hands over a box containing six kilograms of rice, one litre of cooking oil, 40 packets of noodles and half a kilogram of sugar to eager local residents at a mosque in central Jakarta on February 14. As concern around the country grows about the cost of essential commodities, the boxes of foodstuffs, donated by a local bank, were sold for 2,000 rupiah (22 US cents). Riots have broken out in various locations in Indonesia this week as people protested against the rising cost of basic commodities in the wake of last year's drought and the dramatic depreciation in the rupiah.
