Aerial photograph of the manoeuvre area with smoke and shot to pieces on the military training area Grafenw¨hr in Bavaria on 5 Febrauary 1959. Grafenw¨hr was scene of the big winter manoeuvre "Free Play" of the US army, in which about 60. 000 soldiers participated. The highlight of the manoeuvres was the simulation of a nuclear attack, which was observed from the "Feldherrenh¾gel" by around 40 NATO generals.
