She says does not feel part of the modern world now, but is looking forward to living in sheltered accommodation as her previous house was cold and draughty. She remembers happy times before she married, when she used to go dancing to the ''big band sound' with her girlfriends, 1985 (photo) This photograph is part of a project that was titled 'Oldham '85: Care of the Elderly', it was completed during the summer months of 1985. It was part of a series of photographs that recorded through portraits and interviews the lives of residents living in sheltered accommodation in the former cotton town of Failsworth, Oldham, Greater Manchester, UK. Sheltered accommodation is designed for people who are elderly or have disabilities enabling them to live independently, but may need occasional help or support. Brief excerpts from their interview are included in the captions.
