Image description

A detailed view of Granby Place and Granby Hill in Clifton, Bristol; the six buildings to the left, with the plaque 'Granby Place 1791' on the 3rd-4th dwellings, is Granby Place; to the left it becomes Granby Hill, comprising the eight buildings stretching down to the turning leading to Providence Place (now called Hope Chapel Hill); the back of the building obscuring the spot where Granby Place becomes Granby Hill is Windsor Villa, and in the immediate foreground is an unnamed part of the road (now called Windsor Place)that leads right, towards Windsor Terrace; in the background are the Cumberland Basin and Floating Harbour, and on the horizon to the right, the tower of Dundry Church; the inscription on the front of the preparatory sketch for this work - Mb7409 - states that the drawing was taken from inside The Paragon building, and from the angle of the view, this would probably be somewhere near the middle of the main curve of the building approximately between Nos 9 and 12
