The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919 when troops of the British Indian Army under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer fired rifles into a crowd of Indians, who had gathered in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, Punjab. From an album containing views of locations connected with the disturbances in the Punjab in 1919, particularly the masscare at Amritsar. The views were probably taken to provide an official record of damage to property that took place during this period, as well as to provide a visual guide to some of the events at Amritsar in 1919.
