Neil Black, oboist. Widely recorded soloist and previous Principal Oboist with the English Chamber Orchestra. Neil Cathcart Black OBE (born 28 May 1932), English oboist. He has held the post of principal oboe in four London orchestras, has taught at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He played in the National Youth Orchestra, attended Oxford University and took a degree in history. He studied the oboe with Terence MacDonagh. He was principal oboist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and the London Mozart Players. Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Appointed OBE in 1989. Musical director of the Kirckman Concert Society.
