Titian monument, (central panel), in the church of the Frari, the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Venice, church built 1338. Tiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio (c. 1488/1490 - 27 August 1576) better known as Titian, Italian painter, the most important member of the 16th-century Venetian school. Erected in 1852 by Ferdinand L, (1838-52, ) with muses: Sculpture, Architecture, Painting, Wood-carving. Titian himself is seated in the centre ; behind him is a relief representing his famous picture of the Assumption (the High Altar-piece of this Franciscan church) and altar. A winged Venetian lion is on top.
