Anthony Woodville presenting Caxton to Edward IV - from engraving of medieval manuscript. Caxton 's first printed manuscript was an English translation by Woodville of Jean de Teonville's French version of a Latin work. The book was published in 1477 entitled 'Dictes and Sayengis of the Philosophers'. Caxton, considered to be the first English person to work as a printer and the first to introduce the printing press to England.C. 1415/1422 – c. March 1492.
