The scourge of water and fire in the United States. On almost three thousand square kilometers the waters of the great Ohio River have overwhelmed everything; and in many places, from the tanks torn by the current, thousands of hectoliters of gasoline have caused terrifying fires. In many areas the water is eight meters high and the inhabitants, refugees on the roofs, are calling for help. There are more than a thousand deaths, thousands wounded and a million and a half homeless. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 7 February 1937.
