Vain precaution. In the second-class waiting room of Milan Central Station, the 63-year-old farmer Mario Beltrami, from Stradella, won by the heat, wanted to take a nap without running the risk of coming robbed of the briefcase containing 200,000 lire of postal vouchers and 7500 lire in money. With a rope I tie the briefcase to one wrist, which he then put under his head like a pillow, and he fell asleep. When he awoke, the precious briefcase was gone, a thief had cut the rope and slowly pulled the briefcase from under the head to the sleeper. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 21 July 1957.
