Image description

Rome, Capitoline Museums: statue of "Capitoline Venus", from an original by Praxiteles (4th century BC). The sculpture, slightly larger than life size dimensions, was found near the Basilica of San Vitale around 1666-1670. It is made of precious marble (probably Parian), and represents Venus-Aphrodite coming out of her bath.
