The perspective of this drawing is from an upstairs window of the house in which Iso Rae lived with her sister and mother close to the railway station on the edge of the Etaples Army Base Camp. Tents in the Australian Camp can be seen in the background. Rae has depicted various nationalities: French officers and soldiers, New Zealanders, members of the Scottish regiment, and two figures in hospital blues. A small group of Australians can be seen lounging against the wall of the Terminus Cafe on the left. An ambulance is drawn up ready to collect patients from the trains to be taken to one of the Etaples General Hospitals, or onto trains to the coast and from there to England. The feeling that this is a large and busy army camp can be determined by the view which shows the outskirts of the town and the beginning of the camp. The railway lines connecting Etaples to the rest of France can be seen at the end of the street.
