The Vendramin Family (after Titian)

A copy of the original painting now in the National Gallery, London. 'This group portrait shows male members of the Venetian Vendramin family before an altar on which a relic of the Holy Cross is displayed. This relic, which survives in the Scuola di San Giovanni Evangelista in Venice, had been given to the family in 14th century and became an object of special devotion to them. The principal figure, who stretches out a hand to indicate his seven sons, is Andrea Vendramin (d.1547). His brother Gabriel Vendramin (d.1552) kneels before the altar.'
