Sir Orlando Bridgeman, 1st Bt (1609-74) A three-quarter length portrait, seated, turned three-quarters to left, wearing robes as Lord Keeper; the purse at the left, with its tassel but with the first two fingers of his proper right hand; his gloves held in his left hand, resting on the chair-arm. Keeper of the Great Seal; father of Charlotte, Lady Myddelton, and ancestor of the Earls of Badford, hence the oval version of this work at Weston Park. Thomas Pennant noted in 1773 this portrait of the Lord Keeper 'in his robes, and with lank hair'. According to Pennant, he 'presided over two courts of justice with the most amiable character.'
