One of a set of four. Represented by putti painted en camaieu. These half-heartedly illusionistic paintings are adaptations of the reliefs carved on the Fontaine de Grenelle in Paris by Jaques-Edme Bouchardon, from 1739. (see WIM/P/9,11-12) Spring represented by three full-length naked putti, the one on the left, is turned to the right and is kneeling on a cushion lifting up with his left hand a wreath of flowers to place on the head of the centre putto, his right arm rests on the centre putto’s shoulder, the centre putto is seated, legs akimbo, he is placing, with both his hands, a wreath of flowers on the head of the putto on the left. The putto on the right has his back to the spectator, is turned to the right, his left leg on the ground the his right raised to climb a tree on the right. Grasses in the foreground and a tree and flowers in the background. Wimpole, Cambridgeshire (Accredited Museum)
