A half-length portrait, facing, head inclined to the left, wearing a black and white dress and powdered hair. Garlick, in the Walpole Society, writes: 'According to family tradition [actually by a letter from a Mrs Carter to the sitter, recorded by Albert Bankes's manuscript, Parliamentary History, fol.20] painted in 1789, when the sitter was Mrs Johnston'.
