The 'Thermopylae' clipper, with full sails, built in 1867 for its speed qualities. Launched in 1868, it travelled from Gravesend (England) to Melbourne (Australia), setting a record, in 63 days, used between 1869 and 1882 for the tea trade in the Far East, until it was purchased by the Portuguese Navy in 1895 as a training ship, then sank in 1907, off Tagus. Oil on canvas by F. I. Sorensen (?).
