SOUTH LEBANESE SOLDIERS WITH PROTEST PLACARDS AT MOMUMENT TO FALLEN IN KLEIA, 2000-04-06 (photo)

South Lebanese Army (SLA) soldiers sit before placards protesting any SLA break-up when Israel withdraws from its self-declared "security zone" in Southern Lebanon during a ceremony inaugurating a memorial to the fallen SLA soldiers April 6. Some 1,000 Lebanese residents of the "security zone" attended the ceremony paying homage to the 650 Lebanese who have fallen in the zone in the past 24 years. Israeli commanders also took part in the inauguration of the cement monument that bears each SLA soldier's name on a brass plaque with flowers. Israel has declared it will leave the zone by July. JWH
