Sonorette walnut bakelite radio, French, late 1940s. This radio has ivory phenolic plastic knobs, and a silver face with red, yellow and white lettering. The bakelite cabinet for the Sonorette five-valve radio was designed in America for the French market and is a malformed egg-shape made to resemble the front of an outrageous 1950s automobile. It was available in red, blue, green or brown and was described as 'petite et charmante' (small and charming). It worked off the mains or by plugging it into a car cigarette-lighter socket.
