Image description

An Israeli passes by some graffiti near a central market December 12 that makes a death threat against Prime Minister Ehud Barak over his overtures to make peace with Syria and give up the Golan Heights. The Hebrew graffiti translates to, "Barak has betrayed the Golan" but using the word 'betrayed' infers a death threat in a similar way threats were made against assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The graffiti was written by the outlawed extreme right-wing Kach movement, and was erased by municipal workers soon after it was spray painted. Barak goes to Washington later in the week to hold the first direct meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk a-Shara. JWH
