Qantas ground staff guide the first Australian Airlines plane after it arrived at Sydney's Mascot Airport September 15, 2002 during the airlines unveiling of its uniforms and first of four Boeing 767-300s planes. Qantas said that Australian Airlines, the yet to fly discount arm of Qantas Airways Ltd, would start international service in October, having achieved a satisfactory cost structure and after completing negotiations with unions over wages and work practices. The new airline is to fly routes Qantas has withdrawn from or on ones where Qantas has been unable to make a satisfactory return.
