Portraits sur un tandem pour 4 cyclistes, du Quad de Cambridge, 1895, compose de Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910), aviateur et industriel, Stewart, Kenny et Garood. The Cambridge Quad, Cambridge University, 1895. Photograph from an album of prints collected by English motorist, motor car manufacturer and aviator C. S. Rolls (1877-1910). This cycling duad was made up of Rolls, Stewart, Kenny and Garrood. Rolls founded Rolls-Royce Ltd in 1906 with Sir Frederick Henry Royce, creating one of the most famous motoring companies in the world. He was well known on the motor racing circuit, competing in and winning many of the races of the time. Rolls was also a keen aviator and was the first to make a non-stop double crossing of the English Channel in an aeroplane. He was killed in 1910 when his plane crashed at the Bournemouth Air Show. ©SSPL/Science Museum
