Murphy V210C 12-inch television receiver, 1953. This 12-inch consolette cost £49-1-6 when new. It is a table-top receiver fitted in a console type housing giving a shelf to hold ornaments or newspapers below the screen. Console sets of the era generally cost more than table-top models, maybe because the purchaser thought they were getting more technology just because the cabinet was larger.ææ The cathode ray tube had an aluminised screen which reflected light from the screen back out towards the viewer giving a brighter picture.
