Mr Fubes's Course of 15 lectures on Science', c 1840-50. The sketch is a satire on the likely audience for 'Mr Fubes' Lectures on Popular Science' advertised in a notice on the wall. Two men are sitting in a booth in a cafe. The man standing appears to be a coalman from his headgear and is reading a newspaper; the other is probably a tailor and is sitting down reading a book entitled: 'Tales of Love'. The coalman is asking, 'Have you read the Leader, Mr Brisket?'. His friend replies, ' No, I never touch a newspaper, they are so werry wenal and woid of sentiment'.
