Image description

New York Mets' manager Bobby Valentine argues with umpire Kerwin Danley (R) in the fourth inning of the Mets' game with the Florida Marlins, July 18, 2001 at New York's Shea Stadium. The umpires had ruled that the Marlins had pulled off a double play when Mets runner Todd Zeile was caught in a rundown between home and third base and went back to third base to find runner Rey Ordonez already there. Ordonez was the runner who was out, but Zeile left the base and Ordonez stayed and Marlins' manager Tony Perez argued both were thus out. The umpires agreed, but then reversed themselves and ruled that Danley had made an error and awarded Zeile third base. Perez was then tossed out of the game arguing the play further. RFS/HB
