JUERGEN SCHREMPP, CEO OF DAIMLER CHRYSLER AG LEAVES THE STAGE AFTER THE ANNUAL NEWS CONFERENCE IN SINDELFINGEN. DaimlerChrysler AG Chairman Juergen Schrempp leaves the stage after the annual news conference in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart, February 26, 2001. Daimler Chrysler announced that the auto maker's sales and profits will tumble this year, but rebound strongly by 2003. The company's embattled chairman is expected to forecast that group sales will fall to 140 billion euros ($128.49 billion) this year from 162.4 billion euros in 2000. The global restructuring of DaimlerChrysler, the German-US automotive group, is expected to cost 35,000 jobs. DaimlerChrysler's debt-laden Japanese part Mitsubishi Motors Corp, in which the German group has a 34 percent stake, said on Monday it was cutting 14 percent of its 65,000-strong workforce and would close one car plant.
