GYPSY REFUGEES SET UP UNHCR TENTS IN PODGORICA REFUGEE CAMP, 1999-07-14 (photo)

Gypsy refugees set up tents for new arrivals in the "Vrela ribnicka" refugee camp in Podgorica suburbs July 13. The gypsy refugees come mostly from Bar and Ulcinj where they have been trying for the last three days to get on to ships travelling to Italy. Gasi Isen, president of the Romany Association of Montenegro, said that around 6,200 gypsies from Kosovo have settled in this camp in the last 3 months. The gypsy refugees say they feel unsafe in refugees camps in Ulcinj because they are afraid of returning ethnic Albanians who see them as collaborators with the Serbs. SV/AA
