Image description

St Oswald's Church is a parish church that dates to the late 12th century but it possibly on the site of an earlier church. Much of the church was remodelled in 1834 and the west tower was added in 1864. The tower has four stages with angle buttresses on the corners, small windows on the second stange and belfry opening in the fourth stage. The parapet is embattled and the corners have pinnacles. The view to the cathedral church shows the tops of the towers, as most of the main body of the church is obscured by foliage from St Oswald's Churchyard. The top stages of crossing tower of the cathedral can be seen, inluding the pierced parapet. The main body of the cathedral church was built between 1093-1130 and had restorations made in the 18th, early and mid 19th centuries. The image has been taken in winter, which allows the cathedral church to be seen in the background.
