Elliot Marbles, Madras Exhibition, 1857. Photograph by Linnaeus Tripe (1822-1902) of pieces of marble sculpture later known as the Amaravathi panels. Tripe was an official photographer for the British Government, employed to document Southern Indian archaeological remains before they further decayed.
