A small U.S. Coast Guard boat passes the scraped side of the QE2 luxury liner as it floats at a pier on the Hudson River in New York on July 5, after a mild collision with the Japanese warship Kashima. The Coast Guard said both vessels were scraped when the QE2 hit the Kashima as it was brought out of mooring. The QE2, which was scheduled to leave on a trans-Atlantic crossing later July 5, was moored in New York Harbor for the July 4 OpSail 2000 event and the Kashima was a participant. PM/HB
