German President Roman Herzog delivers his speech during a ceremony in a restored synagogue in Berlin November 9 to mark the night of violence, November 9-10, 1938 in which Nazis unleashed coordinated violence against the country's Jewish community. Germany marks the night 60 years ago when the Nazis unleashed the first systematic attacks on Jews which culminate in the Holocaust. In the night of November 9-10, 1938, Nazi stormtroopers ransacked Jewish-owned shops and set synagogues throughout Germany and Austria ablaze, hours of violence and destruction which most historians agree directly sanctioned by Hitler.
