The massed bayonet charge routed the Indians who began the battle with the advantage of a surprise attack on the American camp before dawn. Each side suffering around 150-175 causalities. It was a strategic victory for the US army, because the Shawnee Prophet leader was entirely discredited when his promise of immunity from bullets failed.
