Afghan refugee children receive bread outside a bakery in Islamabad. Despite living through two decades of war, life in Afghanistan has never been as hard as this winter when hundreds of thousands of Afghans are struggling just to survive. Hundreds of children, women in all-enveloping burqas and the disabled from 21 years of warfare jostle in freezing temperatures outside charity distribution centres in the once proud Afghan capital of Kabul.Poverty, drought and a bloody factional war in Afghanistan has forced thousands of Afghans to seek refuge in neighbouring Pakistan.
