Image description

Unscheduled by Maria Meneghini Callas in Chicago. The famous soprano, having left the stage after the third act of Butterfly, was about to reach her dressing room, when she was surrounded by eight ushers in charge of notifying her of a summons. Since, according to American law, the notification is only valid if the person is physically touched, an official had taken it by the arm. The artist started shouting; friends and fellow workers came to his defense. And the attacked, freed from the grip, was able to return to her dressing room. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 4 December 1955.
