Toto and the chicken thief. Days ago a poor man was arrested in Rome while he was stealing chickens. I confess that he was driven to theft by the need to gather the means to buy a plot for his dead daughter. Upon hearing of the fact, Toto sent the thief's family money and supplies; then, not only did I buy the plot, but appointed a well-known lawyer from the capital to assume the defense of the defendant.
