ABORIGINAL ARTIST JOHN MAWURNDJUL STANDS IN FRONT OF HIS BARK PAINTINGS AT MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN SYDNEY. Aboriginal artist John Mawurndjul stands in front of his bark paintings at the official opening of the international contemporary art festival known as the Biennale at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art May 25. Mawurndjul's paintings are made from natural pigments found on his lands in the Northern Territory, and are considered to be the best of their type in Australia. Opening to the public today, the bi-annual event, now in it's 27th year, is Australia's largest art exhibition and involves 49 artists from 23 countries.
